About the event

August 7th is known as the Marin County Slave Rebellion. Join us in honoring the courage of 17-year-old Jonathan Jackson, George Jackson the Dragon, the Soledad Brothers, and the fierce warrior we know as Angela Davis for the significant roles they played in solidifying Black August, Black Thought, Black Struggle, Black Love, and Black Freedom. This month, as we dive deeply into the principles of Black August, we will ground ourselves in the spirit of Black August and the Revolution

Come fellowship, study, and celebrate as we officially announce the opening of our inaugural Cultural Organizer Fellowship. We'll also be discussing month-long Black August Activations through a Cultural Organizing lens - from Teach-ins and Poetry Open Mics, to Writing Beyond The Walls with currently incarcerated folks, ceremony to honor the Haitian Revolution Ritual, the MNMJD: DIGNITY FOR ALL Meetup, and our 2 Day Black August Convening.
