Black August :Beyond The Walls
Join us for a night of poetry, reflection, resistance, and community.
Black August is a month where we commemorate the lives, sacrifices, and struggles of our freedom fighters, political prisoners, advocates, organizers, healers, and word warriors who have fought, won, lost, and sacrificed their freedom in service of the revolution.
Political prisoners such as Assata Shakur, Angela Y Davis, George Jackson, Mumia Abdul, and Erica Huggins words, poetry, and teachings leaped from beyond the bars and into our souls.
No amount of confinement can separate us from the vital force that gives life to living organisms, so we offer our poetic bars as Lyrical Libations to invoke the spirit of the ancestors and jolt the spirit of our comrades locked behind concrete walls.
