Some Things Must Be Heard : SPITTING & POLITICKING
At Some Things Must Be Heard: Spitting & Politicking, we do not separate art from struggle, spirit from strategy, or culture from resistance. We move as one, grounded in Black consciousness and committed to Black liberation.
Our work positions creativity as weapon, witness, and a way forward. Through Black art, poetry, healing practices, leadership development, and social justice campaigns, we confront oppression and build what systems were never meant to hold. We center the voices of formerly and currently incarcerated people as essential architects of this movement, cultivating leadership rooted in accountability, transformation, and collective power.
ART | SPIRT | REVOLUTION

Our Mission
Some Things Must Be Heard: Spitting & Politicking is a Black-Led art centered movement building initiative that merges art, advocacy, spirituality, and embodied organizing to ignite transformation.
We create spaces where currently & formerly incarcerated, and systems impacted voices are uplifted and turned into action. Our base of cultural organizers use their art to mobilize community members, shift public narrative, dismantle systems of oppression, embrace joy, and give vision to a transformed world.
CULTURAL ORGANIZING
Cultural organizing is the strategic, intersectional use of art, culture, and spirit (faith/wellness) to advance justice, shift power, and create progressive policy within marginalized communities. It is a grassroots, intergenerational, approach that integrates community traditions, into organizing strategies, to foster leadership, andlong-term, social change.
ART | CULTURE
We see art and culture as a strategy, a bridge, and an activator. It is how people make meaning of their conditions, reclaim their narratives, shift public perception, escape isolation, and imagine beyond the constraints of oppressive systems. Art has the ability to transcend, race, class, religion, and time. Art and Culture shape who we are and how we are with each other.
SPIRITUALITY | SOMATICS
Healing, Spirituality, and Somatic's are integral because policy alone will not save us. We practice regulation, mind-body coherence, union with nature, somatic awareness, and nonviolence in moments of tension, strengthening nervous systems shaped by trauma. We are committed to centering spirit in all of our work. This commitment grounds us in the sacred divine force that flows through us all.
POLI- ED | ADVOCACY REVOLUTION
Our advocacy, political education, and campaign work live at
the intersection of Black Radical Tradition, Abolition, The Black Arts Movement, and lived experience. We center marginalized people and those who have been impacted by the criminal legal system. Political Education and training is not just for tool for social awareness and mobilization; it is a return to lineage, grounding us in the freedom struggles that came before us and the futures we are building now.
